Eugene, OR – December 5, 2024 – The Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with Downtown Eugene Merchants, Downtown Eugene Inc., Sierra Pacific Foundation, Lane Community College and EWEB, is proud to announce the arrival of a holiday tree in Kesey Square. This festive addition symbolizes the power of community collaboration and marks the beginning of the holiday season in downtown Eugene.
The tree, generously provided by Sierra Pacific Industries, stands as a centerpiece of holiday spirit. Dean Home Services contributed sparkling lights to adorn the tree, while welding students from Lane Community College crafted a custom tree stand, inspired by the iconic stand used at Seattle’s Pike Place Market. EWEB provided critical assistance with the tree’s installation, and the City of Eugene offered guidance and support throughout the process in issuing a permit. Coordination with property owners and merchants and facilitation for this endeavor were led by Downtown Eugene Inc., Downtown Eugene Merchants and the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce.
“This project is a testament to what we can achieve when we come together as a community,” said Katie Wilgus, Downtown Strategist for the Eugene Area Chamber of Commerce. “It’s a beautiful symbol of the season and our shared commitment to making Eugene a vibrant and welcoming place during the holidays.”
The holiday tree will officially light up on Saturday, December 7th at 6:30 PM during the Downtown Eugene Merchants’ Holiday Night Out celebration, kicking off the holiday season with festive cheer. The tree will remain in Kesey Square for the duration of the holiday season and is scheduled for removal in January.
This effort demonstrates the strength of local partnerships and the shared commitment of businesses, organizations, and the city to enhancing the downtown experience for residents and visitors alike.
